Shaving - A Brief Introduction
Wet shaving is the practice of removing body hair, most commonly facial hair, using a razor or any other bladed implement to slice it down to the level of the skin. It is most commonly used by men to remove their facial hair, and by women to remove their leg hair and underarm hair.
Both men and women sometimes shave their chest hair, abdominal hair, leg hair, underarm hair, pubic hair or other bodily hair. Women and men may also shave the hair off the top of their heads, but this is a much more common practice in men. Shaving the head is often associated with the military, right wing thugs (skinheads) and competitive sports such as swimming.
Wet Shaving
Wet Shaving is the term used when the area to be shaved is kept wet with hot water accompanied with shaving soap, shaving cream foam or gel.
Preferably shave after a hot shower but if this is not possible then wash the area with hot water. The layer of lather between your skin and the blade causes the blade to skim the surface instead of drigging, which is the main cause of razor cuts, razor burn, shave bumps and other irritations.
Wet Shaving gives you more effective shaves and better looking skin. The hot water opens the pores of your skin and relaxes your facial muscles, and it softens your whiskers for more effective cutting. Shaving is an art and shaving properly will ensure that your skin will feel smooth and refreshed and it will be free from the problems associated with shaving.
Dry Shaving
This is when the area to be shaved is not lubricated with water, soap or cream. Ouch!
Electric razors are most closely associated with dry shaving. We do not recommend using an electric razor or any other type of dry razor to shave with. It will in many cases irritate your skin and can lead to uncomfortable skin conditions such as razor burn, ingrown hairs and razor bumps. Manufacturers of electric razors say that properly used, most electric shavers will give you a shave that is every bit as close as, if not closer than a shave obtained from a blade razor. They would say that ............... we know better!
