How to Change a Razor Blade Guide

Many customers, especially those new to wet shaving, are not familiar with how to change the blade in a safety razor.

Find out how to change the blade in a double egded safety razor, single edged razor, OneBlade and our own Claymore, and butterfly razor in this simple How To guide.

In this How to Change a Razor Blade guide we will show you how best to change the blade in both a three-piece and two-piece Double-Edged Safety Razor.
We will show you how to change the blade in a standard double edged safety razor, as well as how to change the blade in a butterfly opening razor and the range of OneBlade single edged razors.
We also show you how to change the single edge blade in our new Claymore safety razor too.

Standard DE razors - three-piece razors

To change the blade in a three-piece razor, such as a Muhle R89, Timor or Outlaw, simply follow these steps:

1 – Unscrew the handle from the top cap.

2 – Carefully separate the top cap from the base plate.

3 – Remove the blade from the top cap by holding the ends of the blade. Not the sharp edges.

4 – Dispose of the blade safely using a blade bank.

5 – Add the new clean blade on to the top cap.

6 – Place the base plate back on to the top cap.

7 – Screw the handle back together with the head of the razor.

Standard DE razors - two-piece razors

To change the blade in a two-piece razor, such as a Merkur 34C, Merkur Progress, or Parker Variant, simply follow these steps:

1 – Twist the knob at the bottom of the razor handle to unscrew the top cap of the razor.

2 – Carefully separate the top cap from the rest of the razor.

3 – Remove the blade from the top cap by holding the ends of the blade. Not the sharp edges.

4 – Dispose of the blade safely using a blade bank.

5 – Add the new clean blade on to the top cap.

6 – Place the top cap back in to the rest of the razor.

7 – Twist the knob at the bottom of the razor handle to tighten the top cap back on to the razor.

Butterfly DE Razors

To change the blade in a butterfly razor, such as the Gillette Fatboy or Slim, Parker 74R, the Feather DER-A, or our own Classic, simply follow these steps:

1 – Twist the handle or the base of razor, depending on the model, to raise the butterfly doors.

2 – Remove the blade from the top cap by holding the ends of the blade. Not the sharp edges.

3 – Dispose of the blade safely using a blade bank.

4 – Add a new, clean blade into the head of the razor.

5 – Twist the handle or the base of razor, to close the butterfly doors and secure the blade.

OneBlade Single Edge Razors

To change the blade in a OneBlade Core, Hybrid or Genesis razor simply follow these steps.

1 – Hold the razor in one hand and with the other hand pull the blade out of the razor head.

2 – Dispose of the blade safely using a blade bank.

3 – Slide a new blade in and you are ready to go.

To change the blade in our Claymore Evolution single edge razor just follow these steps:

1 – Unscrew the handle from the top cap.

2 – Carefully separate the top cap from the base plate.

3 – Remove the blade from the top cap by holding the ends of the blade. Not the sharp edges.

4 – Dispose of the blade safely using a blade bank.

5 – Add the new clean blade on to the top cap.

6 – Place the base plate back on to the top cap.

7 – Screw the handle back together with the head of the razor.
